Rambles with The Ramblers

Thursday 6th November – Swyncombe Circular

SU682902 RG9 6EA Moderate 7.5 miles Circular DW
Nov Swyncombe, the church. Following The Ridgeway
towards Watlington, up to Greenfield then Pishill Bottom and Russell’s
Water. Returning by way of Cookley Green.

My very first Ramblers Walk. An excellent circular walk from St Botolph’s church in Swyncombe, just three of us, Peter (walk leader), Trevor and me. The weather was fine, warm enough for me to dispense with my fleece. The autumnal colours were amazing. There were quite a few ascents and descents on the walk, and we went at a fairly brisk pace in the main, which was just about enough of a workout for me.

Saturday 8th November – Peppard Circular

Sat 8th 10:00 SU709818 RG9 5LB Moderate 6 miles Circular HG
Nov Rotherfield Peppard, opposite Red Lion PH. Figure of 8 via Shepherd’s
Green, Satwell and Kingwood Common.

The first Ramblers walk for Mark, and he chose this one. I had my eyes on a twelve miler but six was perfect for today. What a fabulous day! I did the whole walk in short sleeves, didn’t need my fleece at all. Our walk leader was Inga, and we were accompanied by Liz, Diane, Jackie, Joan and Jeff, and four legged Peanut who was incredibly cute. Whilst talking to Joan I discovered that she was born in Chorley, which obviously is where Mark is from. It transpired that they had both attended the same primary school! What a coincidence! Our walk took us through some beautiful woodland, with fabulous autumn colours to appreciate, plenty of leaf fall under foot, and some fungal growth just starting to poke through. It seemed no time at all before we were back at our starting point, and an obligatory pint at The Red Lion was thoroughly enjoyed.
