Day 13 – Danby Wiske to Ingleby Cross

Thursday 24th July 2025

The White Swan at Danby Wiske

This is where I left the route after the second section, and where I returned to today. I was so pleased to be back here, although it was about five hours of driving, I had to stop for a nap because I felt tired. Many people have said that the next section is boring so I was determined to find something to merit it. After a few paths which were quite overgrown, the walk eventually opened out to a view of the moors which await me! I just know there is going to be a lot of up and down sections and they did look a bit ominous, but I will cope! 😂

A little library outside a house in Danby Wiske – I have one outside my own house back home.

This was the opening to a field and there was a lady and gent sat here in their car having a cup of tea. I spoke to them for a bit, a bit too long really because I had to get going with this being just a half day’s hike and I really wanted to get some miles under my belt.

I passed a gate to a field with some cows in it. I sweet talked them to coming over and some of them let me stroke their noses. Some of them were very friendly and licked my hands, cows have very long tongues.

Some interesting signage

Crossed over the railway track, checking both directions carefully.

Getting closer to Ingleby Cross where I was planning on spending the night.

Not sure what this structure is, I need to find out.

Villagers getting into the spirit of the walk and giving a mileage check.a

Tent set up and next priority was a very welcome pint at The Bluebell Inn with camping at the rear.

Steps and mileage for the afternoon, not bad after a tiring five hour drive.

I sat and watched the cricket while I drank my pint. There were three other tents in the camping field, two of the occupants I saw again at my next stop.
