Day 4 – Seatoller to Grasmere

Tuesday 8th April 2025

I had a comfortable night’s sleep and planned the day over a continental breakfast at the hostel. I realised that I could get the bus back to where I left off, walk the Seatoller to Grasmere section, and bus back to Keswick. No need to carry heavy pack! So I booked myself another night at the hostel, threw everything I needed for the day into a carrier bag, refilled my water bottles, rushed off to Millets to buy a small day pack and headed to the bus terminus.

Back on the trail!

A lone violet.

My new day bag, a bargain Eurohike which cost all of Β£7. One to add to the collection πŸ˜‚ I was glad this was all I had to carry today.

My walking buddies for a short distance.

Oh yes, up there I must go, that’s Lining Crag and part of this was a very steep scramble.

I got there! This however is not the highest point of the walk, still a way to go.

I’m watching ewe 🀣

The stone men have done an excellent job of laying the slabs up here.

What a gormless look, but I felt pretty chuffed to be at the top. It’s all downhill from here. Somewhere at the end of the walk was a cold pint with my name on it πŸΊπŸ˜‹

Stunning scenery.

Looking back at where I’ve walked from.

There’s a cloud in that one! 😜

The path from here to Grasmere was quite long but fairly level. I met a couple of ladies who I would say were in their seventies. They had been up to Easdale Tarn and back which was a pretty amazing achievement as oneΒ of them had Parkinson’s disease. They were on holiday in Grasmere.

Unusually I am not planning on buying any gingerbread while I am in Grasmere. I have done well shedding weight leading up to this bike and have probably lost a bit more so no gingerbread for me!

I have seen this King Edward VIII postbox many times before as I have walked this part whilst Wainwright bagging.

Nice bush πŸ™‚

Back in Grasmere I had a pint of Loweswater Gold, it barely touched the sides. Then I had to jog along to the bus stop and arrived seconds before the bus, that was good timing!

Derwentwater from the bus window.

I arrived back at Keswick and headed to Wethies because I fancied a chicken boneless basket, washed down with a glass of Australian Shiraz, heavenly.

I got chatting to two other ladies who were on their own and might have had another glass of wine, or two 😊 One of them was from Holland and the other I think was from Sussex.

I got back to my hostel room to find there was just one other occupant and she was fast asleep so I had to very quietly get ready for bed. She got up at 3.30pm to head off to climb Raven Crag to see the sunrise. I went back to sleep πŸ’€
